Tuesday night was a sad night for me as I had to say goodbye to the two nurses that have been with Asher and Nolan since the early days of level 3. I know it is not goodbye forever as we will surely have visits, but it will be strange to not have their constant presence in our lives. These two went to bat for the boys numerous times and often spoke on my behalf when I just couldn't find the words. I think it is a very special thing to have primary nurses and we are incredibly honoured that these two signed up to be with our family for this extended journey. Thank you, thank you, a million thank yous. I hope you know how much you mean to us.
To our newest primary nurse, and all the other nurses who also followed and encouraged and supported all five of us...you are all incredibly special and the success of our amazing NICU rests on all of you.
Now I'm bawling. I bet you couldn't have guessed that.
I loved primarying families. Such a rewarding part of my job even though not always easy. As you well know preemie life is a roller coaster ride. Good luck with the transition of getting your boys home.
