Great Therapy

Today we had an IDP visit after a few weeks off because of our schedules and vacations. It was great to see PT and our case worker again and report some positive changes we have seen in Asher since last visit. First off, the rolling. He has now rolled front to back on his right side, several times. His core strength is also much improved and can be noticed when holding him in a sitting position as he is far better at supporting his own weight and remaining upright with very little assistance. He is also using his arms more and more and while his movements are still jerky, both of the ladies noted great improvements in his ability to grasp toys and bring his hands to his mouth.

We really look forward to these visits because they help to accentuate the positives instead of Jordan's and my usual worry about what Asher is still unable to do. We got a great vote of confidence today when PT again told us how obvious it is that the exercises we do with him are helping. Although he deserves the credit for learning and developing new movements, the therapy is to be thanked for stopping him from exaggerating his weakened or unfavourable tendencies (such as rotating his arms, over extending, contracting his hands and wrists, etc).

This was the first visit we have ever had where Asher showed he was really tired and didn't like having to perform. The boys were up early today so the ladies arrived just as they would normally be nodding off. Asher looked so sad the whole time they were here and even cried real tears. Those of you who know the boys well know that they never cry (seriously never - yelling is as upset as they get) so it broke my heart a little that it exhausted him so much. A positive that came out of it all was that they said that vocally he is extremely good at expressing his emotions as his tone went from noticeably happy to annoyed to DONE. Way to go buddy with the excellent social development!

We set up a standing appointment for bi-weekly visits from now till December so I look forward to reporting more improvements with each visit!

Oh and no I haven't forgotten Nolan...he is just such a star he doesn't really get looked at anymore!
