Tonight I was reading a bedtime story to Rio and we got to a page with a drawing of maple syrup in a bucket - coming straight out of the tree. Rio points to it and says "Oh I know what that is. That's when you run out of maple syrup, that's how you get it. I think that's how they did it in old time - like when you were young".
Ouch.
I could not control my laughter.

Update: Rio is having trouble sleeping tonight, so has come out of her room a bunch of times since I put her down. Last time, she saw a box of crackers on the counter and asked me why they were there (hinting that she wanted one). I told her that I was eating them because people from "the old time" like crackers. She laughed and I could tell she was blushing because she knew the old time thing was a funny thing to say. As I was tucking her back in I said "Rio, you know mommy is not old. Just because I'm not as young as you, I'm still young."
She looked at me shocked, burst into laughter and shouted into my face emphatically "MOMMY, you are NOT YOUNG". She then proceeded to smother me in hugs and kisses, clearly as a consolation prize for being so old.
oh that sounds like such a touching evening. CUTE!
ReplyDeleteheartwarming... Don't you just want to bottle that and save it for when she is 14....
