Friday (her real birthday) included a lunch date with me:
Followed by ear piercing (an event I have been waiting for since I had a baby girl, but wanting her to be old enough to remember it as a special day):
Brave girl
Sparklies!
Then family for ice cream cake. Here is my shameless self promotion #1:
Home made ice cream cake
Yes, it tasted as good as it looked. You've got some competition Dairy Queen.
So after being thoroughly spoiled and full of chocolate, we moved onto Saturday. Pretty quiet morning until it was time for the girls party. Tinkerbell theme was a hit! After a few hours of running around the yard, crafts, pinning the wand on the fairy, a treasure hunt, and of course snacks, cake, and prezzies, six little fairies went home very happy, with the birthday fairy happiest of all.
Making fairy wands
Shameless self-promotion attempt #2 - the fairy cake. But wait it gets better....
Beautiful girl awaiting her cake....
No boyfriends...
And here it is - the moment you've all been waiting for! Purple and green cake! You had to have known this was coming, given my penchant for colouring food to match the theme.
No Asher, if you look at the plate closer more cake will unfortunately not appear
The day was a total success. The only snafu was right when the guests were leaving Rio realized that she had somehow lost her earring backing and her earring had been hanging out all day. Not the end of the world, right? We just get her a new backing.
WRONG!
Because it was so freshly pierced the back of the hole had already grown over so the earring needed to be re-pierced. She was freaking out (rightfully so) and wanted mommy to be the one to push it through, not daddy - THE NURSE - mommy. But of course I was more of a wreck than she was and was literally going to throw up, faint, or both, at the thought of pushing the post through her ear lobe (all while her friends and their moms were trying to come in the bathroom to say good bye and thank you). Finally Rio relented and with a good hard push from dad, a murderous scream from her, and a gold backing I managed to scrounge up, the earring was back in. Some hugs and some tears and she was back at the festivities, not too much worse for wear.
The rest of the day was spent with family - eating, drinking, laughing, and enjoying the beautiful night. Also trying on grampa's glasses which gave Nolan the funniest set of eyes that are unfortunately not captured in the photo. Think of the Seinfeld when Jerry wears the thick glasses and that was him.
Finally, my Mother's Day Jenga was finally christened and it was a hit:
Do not try this at home: Wearing flip flops while playing a game that could literally break your ankles.

Now the weather has taken a turn and the grey skies are serving as a reminder that real life is beckoning. New toys and crafts are slowly making their way through the house and into her bedroom, and the last deflated balloons are blowing around on the deck.
Till we meet again for birthday #7.

Happy birthday Rio - looks like it was a great day!
