This leg of the trip took us from Montana back up into Alberta Canada. Wow, was that a boring drive. Prairie, prairie and more prairie, from Great Falls right up until about 2 minutes outside of Drumheller where we reached the Badlands. It was a long day, and as boring as it was, the wheat fields really were pretty and the kids were rockstars in the car.
We arrived in Drumheller and our hotel was really nice. Too bad it was the one and only stop where all five of us were in one room (everywhere else we have had a suite or adjoining). Shockingly, the kids actually went to sleep at a reasonable hour, but that meant so did the adults. We must have tired them out from some good pool play. The kids are LOVING the "green water" (as Nolan calls it).
We spent the morning at the Royal Tyrrell Museum - our reason for venturing so far into the middle of nowhere Alberta. Rio loves her dinosaurs and the museum did not disappoint, nor did the prehistoric looking mountains surrounding the town. It is supposed to be the best dinosaur museum in the world, and for good reason. The specimens are amazing and it is set up in a really user friendly way. Too bad we had two seriously impatient boys with us, so we sped through in 2 hours instead of spending easily a whole day there.
Since Drumheller has nothing much else to offer we left immediately for Canmore AB, nestled at the base of the Rockies. We're just vegging out for a bit before we go explore town.
Tomorrow morning takes us through the Rockies to Revelstoke BC before heading back to the coast for another wedding and tons of family. These last few days are going so quickly, we don't want this trip to end!
Matt and I got married in Canmore - it is so beautiful there!!! Enjoy :-)
