I have one basic resolution for 2013:
Float On.
As in: Don't worry even if things end up a bit to heavy, we'll all float on alright.*
Or in other words:
Keep calm and carry on.
I start every year optimistic it is going to be better than the last. That's a good way to start, right? Well, sometimes it is, and sometimes it isn't. Bottom line is we've had a string of some unfortunate luck for 5 years running, so as hopeful as I am, I can't really count on the new year getting easier.
So what I will do instead is plan that for 2013 we'll keep on doing what we've been doing. Keep getting up every morning and facing the day with everything we have. Accepting that some of those days are happy and fun and productive (if we're lucky all of the above), but that some small number of those days include frustration and sadness, and sometimes a little bit of feeling sorry for ourselves.
Of course I'll aim for some self improvement too. Eat less, exercise more. Worry less, laugh more. Drink less coffee, drink more water. Procrastinate less, write more. You know, the usual New Years resolutions. But other than some minor tweaking in that department, my main resolution is to keep up the status quo. Most days, that serves us well.
Happy New Year to you. I hope all of your hopes and dreams come true.
And to you 2013: Bring it.

As a side note, we received two "Secret Santa" cards and gifts in the mail this year. They both arrived yesterday on New Years Eve, and although I believe they were unrelated, they both contained an unbelievable amount of generosity. It is both mystifying and humbling to know that our family is an inspiration. Whoever you are, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
* Thanks, Modest Mouse.
