A Day in the Life - Rio

Want to know how life really goes down for the Trousdell Five? Well here you go with the first of a weekly installment, starting with the princess of the house. A Day In the Life of....Rio:

I wake up and look at the clock.  6:33.

Hmm. That's not seven zero zero. I try to go back to sleep. But I have to go pee.

I go to the bathroom and flip on the light, not realizing I've definitely woken myself for the day by doing this. I finish up and then for some reason feel the need to creep into mommy's room and tell her I've gone pee. She grunts. I think she's trying to ignore me.

I go back to bed and try to fall asleep. This lasts approximately 37 seconds before I declare I can't sleep. On goes the light above my bed, and I start to read.

Next time I look at the clock, it's after 7. I'm allowed to get up!

I go get mommy. She tries to ignore me again, but I'm persistent. She gets up and turns on the tv for me.

My eyes glue to the tv. I can't move. If the house was burning down, I'm not sure I'd notice, even though I've seen this episode of Wild Kratts several times.

Now Mommy is talking, but all I hear is "wahh wahh wahh". Her voice gets louder and louder, and finally I realize she's telling me to get dressed. I ignore her some more. When she comes to get me, I know she means business.

I go and get dressed, usually arguing with her about the outfit I agreed to last night. I yell something at her from my room and she doesn't hear me, so I go eat breakfast. I really hope it's toast with peanut butter and honey but no luck. Oats today. Oh well, you win some you lose some. There better be lots of brown sugar and craisins on it.

When my breakfast is done, I clear my dishes, and go play with the boys. Again, I hear "wahh wahh wahh" but then I realize mommy is telling me to brush my teeth and go pee because we need to leave for school.

I go into the bathroom and get distracted by the mirror. I am so pretty! And I sure like how I look when I brush my hair.

Mommy says "PLEEEASE hurry up! The school bell's going to ring". I brush my teeth, but again, there's that mirror! Oh no, we haven't done my hair! "Mammmmmma, I need you to do my haaaaiiiiirrrr!"

Mommy rushes in and tells me that she is going to go to school without me. I know she's joking because she says it every day and obviously it's not making me move any faster. She quickly does my hair and shoos me out of the bathroom, telling me I look beautiful.

I get my shoes and jacket on. I ask mommy "What shoes? What jacket?", but when she answers, I argue about the weather and she tells me to wear whatever I want because obviously I know better than her.

Mommy gets the brothers into the stroller and we hurry to school. I tell mommy she's walking too fast, but she says we need to hurry and Nolan is losing it.

We get to school and I start to unpack my things. I see all of my friends, and I begin to talk. And talk. And talk. All of my friends are now unpacked and sitting at their desks, and I am still in my coat and shoes. Woops, I better hurry.

I go to my desk, get out my reading, and bring my books to mommy. We get a special reading spot because mommy and the brothers don't fit at my desk with their giant stroller. I want to read the puppet book but she doesn't like that one, so we read the book about Biscuit the dog. Mommy tells me what a good reader I am.

Mommy and the brothers leave because Nolan is really going crazy now, yelling at mommy about something. I give them all a kiss and a hug and they leave me at school for the day. I love grade 1. I have the nicest teacher and so many friends. The day goes by so quickly that by the end of it I can't even remember to tell mommy what we learned!

After school, mommy picks me up from school and we walk home. I get in the door and drop everything. Mommy tells me I need to pick up my things and that I wasn't born in a barn. What does that even mean? She sure says weird stuff sometimes.

I am excited to see Asher and Nolan and Daddy. I have missed them all day! I run into the brothers' bedroom to wake them from their nap and they are so happy to see me. We play in their beds and then mommy comes to get them and we have a snack.

After snack, I tell mommy I'm still hungry. Mommy says all I do is ask for food and it means I'm bored. I don't believe her. I argue but she doesn't give in. I sulk away and Nolan follows me. Mommy brings Asher to wherever we are playing.

I play lots of games with the boys until dinner time, but then Nolan starts to be a pest and bother me. We fight and mommy and daddy sigh a lot.

When daddy says dinner is ready I am excited. Dinner time is crazy! Nolan is so silly and climbs all over me. Usually he doesn't really eat and sometimes gets sent to his room. I try to eat all of my dinner so I can have dessert, but sometimes I lose my dessert priveliges before dinner even starts. Apparently I give mommy "sass", whatever that means. There she goes saying weird stuff again.

After dinner we do my reading home work, and I always convince mommy to put stickers on my reading sheet saying things like "Great Job!" and "You're a Star". Then mommy and daddy say it's time for teeth and pee and jammies. How did that happen so fast? I don't want to go to bed, so I ask for a bedtime snack. Apples and peanut butter are my favourite! I try to keep stalling, but they're wise to me. When I'm ready for bed they give me snuggles and stories. Mommy and I talk about my day and she plays with my hair or scratches my back. I never want mommy to leave but I really am tired, so I gather up all of my stuffies and my gammy and snuggle in. Next thing I know it's seven zero zero again!
